Conversion Technologies

New technologies will be needed for conversion of biomass into new renewable fuels. ADVANCEFUEL will analyse how production can be scaled-up, examining existing biomass conversion technologies with respect to their development stage, costs, complexity, type and amount of biomass used, and necessary infrastructure.

To plan future integration of these innovative biomass conversion technologies, ADVANCEFUEL partners will develop a timeline estimating how and when these technologies could be launched on the market. Economic, social and environmental impacts of the identified technologies will be determined and barriers to their large-scale deployment will be assessed.

Greening the existing fossil-fuel infrastructure

One of the most significant opportunities to facilitate the commercialisation of advanced biofuels is to take advantage of existing fossil fuel infrastructure. ADVANCEFUEL will investigate how identified technologies could be integrated, and evaluate possibilities for greening existing fossil fuel handling and conversion value chains.
