ADVANCEFUEL presented at ‘Sustainability on the high seas’
ADVANCEFUEL partner, Aalto University, held an event on 20 November, looking at sustainability in the shipping industry. With more than 80% of goods transported by oversea freight, marine transport is responsible for 3% of global greenhouse gas emissions. Being the least carbon intensive method of long-distance transport, its role is foreseen to expand in future.
The event, ‘Sustainability on the high seas’, brought together around 100 experts from across the marine transport value chain to discuss the current market and the future solutions needed to meet global targets.
ADVANCEFUEL was briefly presented by Michal Wojcieszyk, in his presentation ‘Looking for future marine fuel options: effect of fuel properties on end-use performance’, as well as Professor’s Martti Larmi’s presentation, ‘Powering future shipping with hydrogen and methanol’. A final panel involved representatives from Wartsila (engine manufacturer), Neste (fuel presenter), Traficom (Finnish transport and communication agency), and Royal Caribbean Cruises (fleet operator), with Aalto University and the University of Vaasa.
